Moving Your Team to Real: The Team Leader's Steps

Where does a team start?

With Real's New Team Request Form. Real says its Teams Department then guides the team through each stage of activating, forming and integrating at Real, and it publishes a team onboarding checklist for the transition.

Real has three team types, and each has its own terms. Real's US team types table, edited in May 2026, sets a domestic team at two members at most, sharing one cap. A ProTeam has at least two members, $5 million in closed volume over the previous 12 months and a split of at least 10% to the team lead. A marketing group shares a marketing name and has no formal team agreement.

What does the team leader do before the move?

Real's US checklist for team leaders, edited in July 2026, starts with a discovery call with a Team Specialist, meant to understand the team's structure and walk the leader through onboarding. The leader then sends a roster with each agent's name, email, cap and sponsor, where they have one.

The leader joins first, through a Letter of Intent join application that includes the Independent Contractor Agreement and the application fee, and signs a Team Leader Addendum. The Team Specialist settles the team name, any physical office, signage and advertising with Real's broker in the state. The leader and any transaction coordinators or admins attend Team Success Training, ideally a week before licenses start to move, and every member and admin gets an emailed invitation to apply.

On license transfer day, the Team Specialist works with Real's onboarding coordinators and state brokers to move the agents' licenses.

What does each member choose, and what does the team set?

Each member's application carries the cap the leader offers. Real says most teams choose between a $6,000 and a $12,000 cap to Real in the US, or $7,500 and $15,000 in Canadian dollars, and each member's fees follow the default configuration the leader has set for the team, which the leader can override for any one member.

A team can also set its own team cap. Once a member has paid it, they no longer pay the team split for the rest of their anniversary year. The member signs the Team Addendum with their ICA, and the leader signs it after them.

Can the team keep its name?

Through Real's Private Label program. A team approved for it keeps the name and branding it has built, and its marketing assets are updated to show Real as the brokerage of record, as each state and province requires. Without it, the team name goes through the approval the Team Specialist settles with Real's broker in your state.

Can agents in another state be on the team?

Yes. Where the team lead is licensed in that state, Real adds the agent to the team. Where the lead is not, the team names an agent licensed in that state to serve as its team lead there. A member working in a state with no licensed team lead can keep working with the team but may not market the team name in that state.

Questions & answers

What else do agents in the US and Canada ask?

How do I move my whole team to Real?

Start with Real's New Team Request Form, and its Teams Department guides the move. Real's US checklist for team leaders runs from a discovery call with a Team Specialist, through a roster of every agent's cap and sponsor, the leader's own join application and Team Leader Addendum, and Team Success Training, to a license transfer day on which Real moves every member's license.

Each member applies through an emailed invitation carrying the cap the leader offers, which Real says is $6,000 or $12,000 for most US teams and $7,500 or $15,000 in Canadian dollars, and signs the Team Addendum with their ICA. How the team cap works for the leader and each member is covered on the page about how the team cap works at Real.

Can I keep my team name if we move to Real?

Yes, if Real approves your team for its Private Label program: the team keeps the name and branding it has built, and its assets are updated to show Real as the brokerage of record, as each state and province requires. Otherwise the name goes through the approval Real's Team Specialist settles with Real's broker in your state, under that state's own rules for team names.

Real's Team Specialist handles the team name, any office, signage and advertising with the state broker during the move. Who qualifies for Private Label, and where Real offers it, is set out on the page about keeping your brokerage name at Real.

Can agents in another state be on my team at Real?

Yes. If you as team lead are licensed in that state, Real adds the agent to your team. If you are not, you name an agent who is licensed there to serve as your team lead in that state. A member working in a state with no licensed team lead can keep working with the team but may not market the team name in that state.

Real's onboarding team adds the agent once the lead for that state is settled. Each member still moves their own license by their state's or province's process, on the team's license transfer day.
