Team Size, Workload and Lead Sources in NAR's Member Profile

Updated

Bottom line: NAR's 2025 figures put the median team at four members. Before a second hire, line up your own hours, sides and lead sources, and give that person the work that costs you the most time.

How many Realtors worked on a team in 2025, and how big was it?

HousingWire, reporting on NAR's 2026 Member Profile, puts the share of Realtors working on a team in 2025 at 21%. In HousingWire's report, the median team had four members.

A second hire takes a solo practice to three people, counting you. That still sits under the four-member median in HousingWire's figures.

How much business does one agent handle compared with a team?

In HousingWire's account, the typical agent's own count for 2025 was nine transaction sides. Counted as a team, the median was 32 sides.

Read both as medians of what members reported, not as targets for a hire. A median puts no figure on what a hire costs you or brings back.

Your own count is the one to plan against. Put last year's closed sides beside the hours each stage of the work took.

Which lead sources produced no business for most Realtors in 2025?

HousingWire reports that NAR found 62% of Realtors drew no 2025 business at all from in-person open houses. For virtual tours, the share with none was 81%, according to HousingWire.

Those shares describe the membership as a whole. Before a second hire is built around hosting open houses or producing tours, pull your closed files and see how many came from either source.

So who should you hire second?

Hire for the work your records show, and let the job title follow. Start from last year: your hours, your sides, and the source behind each closing.

The second person takes the stage that eats the most hours and sits furthest from a source that closes. Where open house or tour duty is part of the plan, weigh it first against the shares HousingWire reported.

Questions & answers

What do agents in the US and Canada ask about this?

How does NAR put together its Member Profile?

NAR builds the Member Profile every year from a random sample of its members. The stated aim is to answer who REALTORS® are. The report looks at business characteristics, business activity, income and expenses, office and firm affiliation, and the technology members use for work. A median from it describes the members who were sampled. Treat it as a picture of the membership, and keep your own records as the figures you plan against.

NAR's highlights describe the Member Profile as an annual report built on random sampling. HousingWire's report on the 2026 edition covers business done in 2025. The figures on team share, team size, transaction sides and lead sources come from that edition.

How many hours a week did Realtors work in 2025?

HousingWire, reporting on NAR's Member Profile, puts the median Realtor workweek in 2025 at 35 hours. That figure was unchanged from the year before. It is a median across the members NAR sampled. Your own week can run well above it or well below it. Your calendar is the number to set any hire against.

Count last month's hours by stage: prospecting, appointments, contract to close, and the admin in between. The stage with the most hours and the weakest tie to a closing is where a hire belongs on the table first.

Can I talk a second hire through with someone at Jumpstart Partners?

Alexis Ruiz-Ney is the sponsor behind Jumpstart Partners, a group of agents at Real Brokerage founded in 2019. What we hold to is a sponsor at Real who answers the phone. Bring last year's sides, your weekly hours and the source behind each closing. The conversation then starts from your own numbers and leaves national medians aside.

We also run live sessions and share scripts. Every week, one thing that is working right now comes from the person doing it, so you can compare notes with agents who have already made a second hire.
